Why Eyelid Surgery

The eyes are integral to maintaining a youthful appearance. It is well recognized that the eyes are a focal point of the face, and invite the most attention. The eyes are also one of the first areas of the face to exhibit aging.
Unfortunately, as we age our eyes often begin to look tired, sad and droopy. Even when we are well rested, we no longer have that bright, “wide-eyed,” youthful appearance.
The needs of one patient’s eyelids may be entirely different from another’s. The goal of both upper and lower eyelid surgery should be to restore the youthful appearance of the eyes and to allow additional light to enter and reflect against the eye itself. By doing so, patients look more refreshed and awake.
Fortunately, cosmetic eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) can help to reverse signs of aging and restore a youthful, rejuvenated appearance. It is often performed in conjunction with a facelift or neck lift to improve overall appearance. Dr. Osmanoglu performs blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to create natural-looking facial improvements.

Candidates For Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery, technically known as blepharoplasty, is appropriate for healthy adults of all ages who have realistic expectations about how the procedure can improve their appearance. Eyelid surgery focuses on the area immediately around the eyes, and may be a good choice if you have:
– Loose skin, fine wrinkles, or fatty deposits on your upper or lower eyelids
– Bags under your lower eyelids
– Sagging upper eyelids that obscure your peripheral vision
– Droopy lower eyelids that expose the lower whites of your eyes
Depending on the individual patient needs, the procedure takes 1-2 hrs. Most patients can expect to return to work within 1 week of surgery. Eyelid swelling and bruising is common and generally disappears within 10 days. Bruising around the eyelids can be hidden with use of makeup. Cold compresses and head elevation while sleeping will help to expedite the healing process. Sutures are removed within 7-9 days.
